Wales ran riot, racing over for five tries with Adi Taviner leading the way with a try in each half with Laurie Harries, Amy Day and Sioned Harries scoring the others with Laurie Harries adding the icing on the cake with two conversions.

In the semi-finals Wales blew away Angels 41-0 to ensure Wales didn’t concede a single point on day two.

A delighted Sevens coach Richie Pugh heaped praise on his side and said he hopes they can now use the success as a springboard towards the fast approaching Six Nations campaign.

“Winning the Plate is an outstanding achievement for the girls,” he said. “What is most pleasing is the girls set themselves the target of two wins today to win the Plate and not only did they do that, they did it without conceding a single point from those two games. They kept their concentration for every single second in both games to keep the try-line intact.

“Some of the girls really stepped up today. Sioned Harries was outstanding in attack while Laurie Harries was rock solid in defence. We tried a new halfback combination with Amy Day and Adi Taviner and they ran the game really well. Sian Williams did a great job at the breakdown and worked tirelessly for the team.

“The girls will form the nucleus of the Six Nations squad so hopefully they can use this as a springboard going into the game against England when we kick off the tournament in Swansea.”
