Hat-trick hero Prydie praises forward pack

Newport Gwent Dragons’ hat-trick hero Tom Prydie hailed his forward pack after their 69-17 triumph over Bucharest Wolves.

The Men of Gwent ran-in 11 tries at Rodney Parade on Friday night to take top-spot in European Rugby Challenge Cup Pool Three after four rounds of action. Prydie finished off three of the scores, but insisted the hard work was done up-front.

He said: “It was nice to get a hat-trick but the forwards were fantastic. They worked hard all week on their scrums and lineouts. We were very good in that area this week, they did all the hard work and it was easy for us in the backs to finish off the overlaps.”

The Dragons are one-point clear at the top of Challenge Cup Pool after Newcastle Falcons lost their unbeaten record at Stade Francais. The two sides meet in a potential pool decider at Kingston Park in round five, where Lyn Jones men will be looking to avenge their defeat in round two.

But it’s back to PRO12 action next week when Zebre travel to Rodney Parade, and Prydie is determined to kickstart their league campaign after racking up their biggest points total ever in Europe.

He said: “It was great to get the win and put that many points on the board. There is still a lot we can work on so it’s about doing that and not getting ahead of ourselves. We’ve got stronger opposition in the next couple of weeks, so it’s about getting our heads down, working hard and trying to push forward in the league now.

“We’ll have a good look at Zebre. They’re above us in the league but everyone’s looking forward to playing them at home, we’ve had a few poor home games so we’re really looking forward to this one now.”
