Warriors hold no fear for Ponty

Pontypridd captain Dafydd Lockyer says his side will play with ‘no fear’ when they take on Worcester Warriors at Sixways in the quarter-finals of the British and Irish Cup on the weekend of January 23/24/25, 2015.

Ponty have already displayed plenty of guts and determination to make it through to the knockout stages of the competition after beating Connacht Eagles and London Scottish on the road in the group stage to qualify as runners-up in Pool 1 behind Bristol Rugby.

“The group stages was a real topsy turvy effort for us,” said Lockyer. “We lost away to Bristol but picked up a vital losing bonus point but had good away wins to Connacht and last weekend against London Scottish.

“The boys pulled together and we go to Worcester with no fear. They will be worrying more about us than we will about them. When things have been hard and we’ve been in bad places we’ve come through so we don’t fear anyone. We know that on our day we can beat anyone.”

Ponty were narrowly beaten by Bristol in two of their pool matches but beat both London Scottish and Connacht Eagles twice to secure a place in the knockout stages.

“It’s been a real team effort to reach the quarter-finals,” added Lockyer. “The guys coming in from the Blues like Lou Reed and Tavis Knoyle have really helped us while our young second row Seb Davies has been outstanding. He is only 17 or 18 years of age and has really stepped up over the past few weeks.

“We are happy to have reached the quarter-finals and no doubt it will be a big day out for us and our fans.”
