Tipuric eyes Ospreys improvement

Justin Tipuric has urged his Ospreys team-mates to improve if they are to make it two wins out of two against the Scarlets.

The Liberty Stadium is battled to a 17-15 home win in the first festive West Wales derby, and are looking for a repeat at Parc Y Scarlets on Saturday January 3.

The victory extended their unbeaten run against the Welsh regions to 17 matches, but Tipuric reckons they will have to get even better if they are to make it 18.

He said: “We will definitely need an improvement to win down there. We know that better than anyone.

“I don’t think we have played worse than that second half all season and it is something we want to put right. We are in a good place but we have to keep pushing each other to get better.

“Being written off before the season started was a good thing. We are proving people wrong at the moment, but the thing is to keep doing that, because there is a long way to go.”

Ospreys top the PRO12 heading into the new year with nine wins from their 11 matches so far. Glasgow Warriors trail by a single point with the Irish trio of Munster, Ulster and Leinster in hot pursuit. And Ospreys outside-half Dan Biggar does not want to leave anything to chance this time around.

“It’s an apology from us, really, because that second half was as poor as we’ve played in a long time,” said Biggar.

“We’re very lucky to get out of jail. There’s frustration and disappointment. But, fair play to the forwards, they got us out of a bit of a hole at the end with some good power play.”
