Principality Premiership leaders Pontypridd stayed top with a 14-6 win over high-flying Carmarthen Quins thanks to a second half try from No 8 Dan Godfrey.

That was the only try in a tight and tense clash at Sardis Road as the home team made it 11 league games without defeat this season. Outside half Simon Humberstone kicked three penalties to secure the points for Ponty against a disciplined Quins side, who had two penalites from their No 10 Craig Evans.

Ebbw Vale lead the chasing pack and did their title credentials no harm with a 36-18 defeat of Cardiff. Back row man Cameron Regan was the star of the show as the home team ran in six tries and earned a bonus point.

Gethin Robinson, Dan Haymond, Wes Cunliffe, Damien Hudd, John Lavender and Ronny Kynes all crossed the line for Vale as they won their fourth game on the bounce. Iain Smerdon converted three of them.

Abervaon got a vital win over fellow-strugglers Newport, triumphing 20-16 at the Talbot Athletic Ground. A Nathan Brown score and a penalty try were enough for the hosts to take four points and leapfrog Newport at the foot of the table.

Neath were able to build on their Boxing Day defeat of Aberavon with a 15-14 win over mid-table Bedwas. Steffan Jones and Ashley Evans scored for the ‘Welsh All Blacks’ and outside half Dai Landgon kicked a penalty and a conversion to secure the win. The game was marred by an injury to Neath wing Jamie Davies who was taken away in an ambulance at half-time after a heavy collision.

A Frazier Climo masterclass helped Llanelli win 32-22 at Llandovery. Jonny Lewis, Kyle Evans, Lewis Rowlands and Climo all ran in tries, Climo adding three conversions and two penalties.

Llanelli stole a bonus point in the dying moments as Llandovery searched for a try, only to gift a try to the visitors who move up to fifth.

Cross Keys’ visit to Bridgend was called off as The Brewery Field pitch fell victim to rain.
