Carmarthen Quins v Bedwas

Carmarthen Quins v Bedwas

After demolishing Llanelli 91-7 in last Sunday’s televised fixture, scoring 13 tries and 13 conversions in the process, the Quins need to re-focus as they welcome Bedwas to the Park this Saturday.

Whilst last Sunday was pretty impressive no one associated with the Quins will be under any illusion that Bedwas will be a different proposition altogether. Carmarthen are currently third in the league on 49 points with Bedwas in sixth on 34 points – with one game in hand.

Historically results have, for the most part, gone Carmarthen’s way and they will start as favourites on their home ground. The last time the two sides met was at the Bridge Field on 4th October 2014 when the Quins won 44-29. However, the corresponding fixture at home in February 2014 was a much closer affair with the Quins just edging it 11-9.

Last Saturday Bedwas went down by 20-3 away to Aberavon and their match report indicates that the team on the day were ‘out of sorts’ and put the performance down to ‘a bad day at the office’. They knew they had to re-group quickly and that’s exactly what they did on Wednesday evening (4th) when they beat Pontypool 46-10 in a SWALEC Cup fixture.

The weather promises to be dry and should lend itself to an exciting game of running rugby between two teams in the top half of the Premiership.

The Quins have made two changes in the backs and four changes in the forwards from the Llanelli game. Lee Williams and Iolo Evans have been replaced by Dylan Morgans and Morgan Griffiths, with Christopher Williams and Lee Taylor coming into the back row in place of Ellis Lloyd and Shaun Jones. In the front row Gethin Robinson and Jack Haines start in place of Javan Sebastian and Rhodri Clancy, who drops to the bench.
