Edwards desperate for top six spot

Scarlets front-rower Peter Edwards is prepared for a final charge towards the top six of the Guinness PRO12.

With just five matches left to play, the Scarlets sit three points behind Connacht, who occupy the final European spot. But that could all change this weekend as the West Wales region welcome Edinburgh, who are also in the race.

Pat Lam’s Connacht travel to high-flying Munster, and Edwards is more determined than ever to get back on the paddock after a red-hot weekend of rugby.

He said: “We’ve had a few weeks off but we’ve come back in and we’re ready to go for the rest of the season. It was a huge weekend of rugby, we saw some very high scoring games and the boys did really well. It was just a pity we couldn’t come away with the Six Nations title in the end.

“We’ve got Edinburgh up next at Parc Y Scarlets and they’re only a point behind us so we need to create some breathing space. We need to keep in the hunt for a European spot and push until the end the season.”

The Scottish side are a single point behind Wayne Pivac’s men with five games remaining. But the Scarlets are still unbeaten at home in the league this season. Edinburgh will be hoping to atone for their defeat to Cardiff Blues the last time they travelled to the Principality. But Edwards reckons they can emerge victorious if they stick to their tried and trusted plan.

He said: “Edinburgh have a really strong set-piece game. But for us, it’s about concentrating on what we do well and then it is up to them to try and stop us. The Scarlets have been renowned for our expansive style of play. We have to see when it’s the right time to go for it and ten execute well.”
