Owens targeting perfect finish

Scarlets skipper Ken Owens is determined to atone for their defeat to Edinburgh with a perfect charge towards the European Rugby Champions Cup places.

The West Wales region slipped behind Edinburgh into eighth after they ended their 15-month unbeaten home run in the Guinness PRO12. But despite their set-back, Owens reckons their will be more twists and turns in the league run-in.

He said: “I think going into these last five games before today it was all in our hands. We’d have liked to have our destiny in our own hands; I don’t think it is now. It’s far from the end; we just need other sides to do us favours, which isn’t ideal.

“We’ll have to front up in Parma; Zebre are a very good side especially at home. We’ll have to right the wrongs of today in a fortnight.”

With four games remaining, against Zebre, Dragons, Cardiff Blues and Benetton Treviso the Scarlets still have it all to play for and remain in the race for that coveted top six spot. Edinburgh will have to negotiate tricky ties at home to Leinster and Muster. Pat Lam’s Connacht side also face  a tough tail-end of the season, with clashes against high-flying Ulster and Glasgow Warriors on the horizon.

And Owens is targeting four wins from four matches, with the PRO12 European race set to go down to the wire.

He said: “We are good enough. It’s disappointing we didn’t get anything from this game but we’ve got four huge games in the run-in to the end of the season. We win all four and some other results go our way and hopefully we can make that top six. It’s going to have to be four from four now.”
