‘Unsung heroes’ campaign launched

In the lead up to Finals Day 2015, SSE SWALEC, the national community partner of the Welsh Rugby Union, has launched a campaign to identify the ‘unsung heroes’ within the rugby community.

SSE SWALEC is encouraging rugby clubs in the SSE SWALEC leagues to nominate the person who they believe has gone above and beyond for their team – be it a player, a coach, a club secretary or a super-dedicated fan.

They are calling for players within the leagues to nominate the ‘unsung hero’ from their local club by emailing swalec@golleyslater.co.uk and sharing 100 words on why they are nominating that person.

Winning nominations will be recognised for their contribution to the team’s success, and awarded with a Welsh rugby jersey signed by SSE SWALEC ambassador and former Wales captain Ryan Jones.

Jones commented: “Rugby to people in Wales isn’t just a sport; it’s a way of life. It’s lovely to see the people who make grassroots rugby happen week after week being recognised by this campaign, and getting the thanks that they deserve from their teams.”

As part of the award, the ‘unsung heroes’ will also receive four tickets to SSE SWALEC Finals Day at the Millennium Stadium on May 3rd, where they can watch six league teams battle it out to take home the SSE SWALEC Cup, Bowl and Plate.

SSE SWALEC customers can apply for up to four complimentary tickets to Finals Day 2015 by signing up, for free, to ssereward.com.

*Nominations for the SSE SWALEC ‘unsung heroes’ awards close on 2nd May 2015. Terms and conditions apply.
