The Fiji back joined the Liberty Stadium side in the summer and has played a starring role in their quest for post season action. They sit in fourth, eight points clear of Leinster, after a bonus-point win over Benetton Treviso.
Newport Gwent Dragons did Stave Tandy’s men a favour by defeating the Irish side, and Matevesi reckons their team mentality can take them far.
He said: ”It is great to be part of this group. There is a never-say-die-spirit within the squad and something like that can take you a long way. That last-minute try we scored in Treviso to get the bonus point was down to us keeping going and sensing something was on.
“Rhys Webb was the one who said after the third try to get back quickly. If you watch it on the TV clip, he’s the one who’s shouting to everyone: ‘Get back!’ I was under the posts trying to get my breath back, but Rhys knew something was on.
“And the try was a really good one. I am not saying we are going to win this league — there is still a lot of rugby to be played and we have a heck of a lot of work still to do to make the play-offs — but the attitude of the boys is spot on and everyone is playing for each other. The kind of character that is in our squad definitely helps.”
The Ospreys return to Pro12 action when they face Cardiff Blues at the Millennium Stadium a week on Saturday. They then welcome league leaders Glasgow Warriors to the Liberty before finishing the campaign away to Connacht.
