Wales finished a credible seventh in the opening round last weekend at the Luzhniki Sports Palace in Moscow although they found the elite teams a tough nut to crack.
“There were some pleasing performances in Moscow, with two good wins against experienced opponents in Georgia and Romania on day 1,” said Williams.
“However mistakes proved costly when we failed to look after the ball. We were not accurate in our off-loading and that not only left opposition off the hook, but also put us under pressure due to our defence being disorganised from turnover ball.
“The teams with World Series experience, France, Russia, and Portugal, took full advantage of this and they put us to the sword.
“The challenge for this week is to eradicate those errors and learn from the lessons of the group’s first international tournament. It is good to keep a high level of consistency for individuals to be able to go and put their learning in to practice. That is key with development, and hopefully we see this come to fruition in a tough group against England, Russia, and Belgium this weekend.”
