A carnival atmosphere is expected with Official Radio Station Nation Radio breakfast presenters Niall and Danny hosting the day’s action and entertainment. Nation will be providing hourly updates live from the event which kicks off at 10am with Llandovery v Carmarthen Quins and will continue until the cup final, set to kick off at 7.20pm.

Title holders Llandovery kick off the action against fellow Scarlets Premiership side Carmarthen Quins, followed by Ebbw Vale v Welsh Exiles, while last year’s runners up Pontypridd end the Round One line-up with a clash against Welsh Students before the tournament splits to Cup and Plate competitions. The 12 teams from last year’s Principality Premiership, along with RGC 1404 and Swansea from the Championship, Welsh Students and Welsh Exiles. For the first time, there will also be a Women’s competition – the Radler’s National 7s.

Firmly established as the party code of rugby, the Fosters National 7s in Cardiff has all the ingredients for an action packed weekend for fans.

Tournament sponsors Foster’s will provide prizes for the games organised throughout the day for supporters in fancy dress, such as crates of Fosters Gold and a pair of tickets to Wales v Italy Dove Men Test at the Millennium Stadium on 5 September.

Games will include retro Spacehopper races, a hula hoop challenge as well as a rugby themed obstacle race.

The party continues long after the rugby has finished with Official After Party Venue hosts Brewhouse providing live music and entertainment and a chance to party alongside the tournament’s stars.

Ticket prices for the whole day event are unchanged from last year with adult tickets at £10 and £5 for under 16s. A family offer is also available at £20 for two adults and two under 16s.

Wales Sevens head coach Gareth Williams said, “The Fosters 7s is the perfect time for players to show what they are capable of, both in terms of getting into our minds as Wales selectors and coaches and with their Premiership season just around the corner. There is also the small matter of rugby sevens being part of the Olympic Games next year, so from a player’s and fan’s objective, the Fosters 7s will be just the ticket to get into the swing of the sport.”

WRU Head of Sales and Marketing Craig Maxwell said, “The Foster’s 7s is sandwiched nicely between the senior team’s warm-up games and the start of the Rugby World Cup, so rugby fans can keep the momentum going with live rugby on their doorstep and get into the party spirit with some fast paced rugby sevens.

“It’s a fantastic event for the whole family with so much on offer on top of the rugby. Sevens is always a spectacle but it is also an opportunity for people to familiarise themselves with this form of the game ahead of the Olympics next year.”
