The Sardis Road victory extends Ponty’s lead at the top of the Principality Premiership over the Drovers, who started the day a point behind in second. Luke Lewis sent Llandovery into the ascendancy after 18 minutes, with outside-half Jack Maynard converting to make it 8-0.

But wing Jenkins darted over at the corner for his first try of the afternoon four minutes later to spark Pontypridd into life. Maynard hit another penalty before the hosts rumbled over for an eight-point penalty try. And with moments remaining before half-time, Jenkins side-stepped his way to a second try to give Ponty a 20-10 lead.

It only took three minutes after the break for Jenkins to complete his hat-trick and Ceri Sweeney converted for the bonus-point score. Back-rower Dan Godfrey put the gloss on the triumph with a fifth try to maintain the Valley Commando’s unbeaten start to the season.

Drovers’ Richard Brookes crashed over on 72 minutes, but it was too little, too late for the West Walians who have been overtaken by Aberavon after their home victory over Newport.

A last-gasp James Garland penalty secured a fifth straight win in the Principality Premiership for Aberavon. Despite a late try from Newport’s Arwel Robson that levelled the scores at 24-24, Garland held his nerve at the death to clinch a famous win.

Newport took a surprise lead after just three minutes when former Wales U20 lock Dan Partridge charged through to score at the the posts. Aberavon replied 10 minutes later through in-form winger Andrews, who crashed over for his third try in three games.

The Wizards then hit the front thanks to outside centre Price, whose converted effort on 25 minutes made it 14-8. A deliberate knock-on then gifted the visitors penalty try on the brink of half-time to put Newport two points ahead.

Garland levelled the scores on after the break with a two-point penalty, before he converted Davies’ 54th minute effort. Newport almost nicked it through Robson’s 80th minute score, but Garland’s cool head ensured the Wizards maintain their unblemished start to the season.

Cross Keys kicked on from their demolition of Llanelli with a solid 18-0 triumph at home to Bridgend.

It took 35 minutes before former Wales Under 20 scrum half James Leadbeater managed to break the deadlock with a try that his half-back partner Ethan Davies converted to make it 8-0 at the break.

Full-back Owen Howe kicked to stretch the lead with seven minutes left on the clock. Keys then conjured up a penalty try from a trademark driving line-out to seal the victory with two minutes to go.

Ebbw Vale resisted a red-hot Cardiff comeback to register a hard fought 34-22 victory.

The Steelmen responded to last week’s drubbing against Pontypridd with an electric first-half display as they raced into a 32-0 lead at the break.

The scoring was opened courtesy of a penalty try before Ronny Keynes, No.8 Ethan Doyle crossed. The bonus point was wrapped up with Keynes’ second score after a close-range catch and drive.

Cardiff rang the changes and they paid when they finally opened their account with a try from Will Rees-Hole. Top-try scorer Jonathon Edwards crashed over for his fourth try of the season and Cardiff’s second from a rolling maul to keep his place at the top of the charts, before Rob Lewis scored to setup a nervy final few minutes.

Llanelli secured their first win of the season with a 30-16 bonus point victory over local rivals Carmarthen Quins at Parc Y Scarlets. Tries from Rydian Gerait, Billy McBryde, Josh Macleod and Elliott Rees were too much for their West Wales rivals, who scored through Chris Banfield and Iolo Evans.

Bedwas returned to winning ways as they ended a run of three-straight defeats by holding off a late Neath fightback at Bridge Field. The visitors, who are still chasing their first win of the season, trailed 20-0 at one stage, but rallied bravely through tries from Tom James and replacement Ian Ellis but it was not enough.

Bedwas scored thanks to two tries from Rory Budina and a Connor Edwards score, with Richard Powell adding eight points from the tee. However, Neath hit back through a Joel Matavesi penalty and an opportunistic try from scrum-half James on half-time.

Bedwas responded shortly after the restart with another good finish from Budina, but they were made to sweat when wing Ellis finished off a lovely three-quarter move as the visitors ended on the front foot.
