Pontyclun came flying out of the blocks and scored from the kick off, the ball was moved wide to Jess Warrington who sped through some weak defence to touch down, and Brogan Jones added the extras.

The Borderettes first points came from a penalty which was drop kicked by hooker Del Davies. Whitland who had now woken up drove towards the Pontyclun line and after some excellent drives by Sara Davies and Elin Hywel, Sioned Harries crashed over from close range.

Pontyclun scored next after a slick backs move – Raf Taylor burst through mid-field to touch down under the posts – Jones again added the extras.

Harries again added a five pointer after a good blind side break from No8 Nat Walsh – the ball was moved wide by Heather Rees and Rachel Finnan to Harries who sprinted away to touch down wide out.

Whitland had to re-organise their team at half time after Welsh International Nia Davies left the field with a dislocated shoulder and centre Cath Morley with a serious knee injury.

Pontyclun started the second half as they did the first and took advantage of some indecision in the Borderettes midfield to score two quick tries by Charlie Murray and Duddgu Howell, both converted by Jones.

Whitland again hit back after some powerful running by Walsh and Hywel ruck ball was moved wide by Alice James and Helen Price Finnan to Rachel Finnan who crashed over from close range. Jones added a three pointer for Ponty which was followed by another try from the speedy Taylor which was again converted by Jones.

The last 10 minutes was all Whitland as they mounted a major fight back, after a series of penalties in the Pontyclun 22, Harries crashed over for her third which was converted by Davies. From the resultant kick off Walsh ripped through the Ponty defence on the half way and was eventually hauled down five metres out, from the breakdown Sara Davies powered over and Davies added the extras to bring the score to 32-38.

Whitland pushed hard against a tired Pontyclun team looking for the winning score but ran out of time and had to settle for a losing bonus.
