Warren Gatland and his team were singled out for praise after reaching the quarter final knock out stage of the tournament from a highly competitive pool.
WRU Chairman, Gareth Davies, said: “We all send our congratulations to the Wales squad for the tremendous achievement of reaching the quarter finals of the Rugby World Cup and playing such a high standard of rugby throughout the tournament.
“They performed competitively in every game and were wonderful ambassadors for Welsh rugby and for Wales off the field as well.
“The players can all be justifiably proud of what they achieved and we all thank them for keeping us on the edges of our seats for the past few weeks.
“Our fans have been magnificent too and I want to thank them all for the wonderful support they gave to the Wales squad from start to finish.”
