The 25-year-old has been involved in the Dragons training this week and will be available for selection for Friday nights match against Benetton Treviso, at Rodney Parade (KO 19:15).
Hughes returns to Rodney Parade on a three-month loan after leaving the club in 2014 to join Premiership Rugby team Exeter Chiefs. The centre made 10 appearances for the West Country during his first season.
Newport born Hughes is a graduate of the Dragons academy and made 80 appearances for the Men of Gwent.
The versatile back has also played for Premiership sides Bedwas and Newport RFC, whilst featuring in the Wales U20s side in 2009, before tackling his first appearance for the Region against Cardiff Blues at Rodney Parade on 23rd April 2010.
Commenting on his return, Hughes said: “Its great to be back at Rodney Parade and at the Newport Gwent Dragons. I came back to train on Tuesday and have settled in well alongside the rest of the squad.
“Training has gone well and it’s been fantastic using new facility in Ystrad Mynach.”
Hughes went on to add: “I noticed that the Dragons were suffering with injuries in the centre and I felt that with the return of the internationals at the Chiefs my opportunity to start was slightly shunted. So I made the decision to come here on loan and play some rugby.
“I feel that it was a good decision for me and I look forward to my first game back.”
Director of Rugby Lyn Jones said: “I am delighted to see the return of Adam Hughes to the Rodney Parade for his loan. He has always been a popular member of the club with fans and the squad, and I look forward to his contribution.”
