Llanishen will now play mid-table Division 1 East side Rhydyfelin in the third round after they battled back to beat Division 1 North side Bethesda 23-11. Noah Callaghan and Rhodri Davies scored the home side’s tries with Tom Hannah gathering 13 points from the boot on their way to victory.
Division 1 West’s Seven Sisters beat Division 1 East strugglers Gilfach Goch, 25-13, to secure a third round tie against Penallta. Daniel Lawton produced an impressive individual display, racking up 20 points of his own.
Lawton went over for two tries, kicked two penalties and also converted both of his side’s tries. Sitting at the bottom of the table, Gilfach Goch kept the game tight with a spirited performance in which Adam Friday scored a try and Conor Morgan kicked eight points.
Cwymllynfell against Caerleon was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, with lowly West Central side, Pencoed awaiting the winner in the third round after they beat Caernarfon 19-5 back in early December.
In the game of the week, Division 2 West Central’s Aberavon Green Stars threw away a 27-0 half-time lead as they lost 35-27 at home to Risca. The visitors showed their Division 1 East class to produce a stunning second half comeback with Callum Anderson scoring the crucial points to secure the astonishing fightback.
Lewis Tovey, Mike Hutchins, Scott Turner and Adam Petley all scored second half tries with Scott Turner converting all five tries to secure the win. Risca will now face the winner of the game between Senghenydd and Llandudno.
Bedlinog ran-in seven tries to advance to the third round with a thumping 52-13 win over Crymych. Marcus Clyne scored a brace to add to tries from James Powell, Robson Blake, Andrew Murphy, Lloyd Bennett and Nathan Huish.
Ben Grzesica converted six tries to put his side into the next round, with fixtures to be played on 16 January.
