The lessons learned from that disappointing defeat led to the Carmarthen Quins coaches altering the attitude of the players and their response was quite amazing.
The high flying Bedwas outfit were left with no doubt who had the upper hand in this cup match.
Having completed the league double over the Quins, the visitors arrived with clear intentions of completing the treble, but were met with a Quins side who had other plans, and they produced their best performance of the season.
Their solid scrum and controlled line-out gave Bedwas very little possession to work from, and any headway they tried to make was met with awesome tackling – the result being that most of the play was always in the visitors half.
The Park was in immaculate condition and encouraged an open game which is what the supporters witnessed.
After four minutes Craig Evans slotted over a 35-metre penalty only to be equalled by former Quins player, James Dixon after 7mins.
Evans narrowly missed with a 45m penalty attempt but play was kept deep in the visitors half, with powerful control by the home eight.
From possession gained by their forwards, Craig Evans moved to his right and his cross kick found Gavin Thomas following up to gather and power over in the Gas works corner for brilliant try, Evans took the home score into double figures with the conversion.
After 15mins Dixon pulled three points back with a penalty, but the Quins continued to attack to the delight of their supporters on this cold evening.
Haydn Pugh and Josh Helps were controlling the line-out, enabling the Quins to dictate matters and on the half hour, Iolo Evans made a powerful burst up field and Rhys Williams was on hand to cross for the second try, which was converted by Craig Evans, giving the Quins an interval lead of 17-6.
The Quins were upbeat and went on the offensive from the second half whistle, and only desperate defending kept them out.
Rhys Williams was back to his best and was causing all kinds of trouble to the Bedwas defence. Evans put over a 45 metre penalty to give his side a two score advantage.
With game in the 80th minute, the Bedwas catch-up play was rewarded with a try and conversion, but the result was never in doubt and the Quins
go into the next round which will be away to the North Wales Rugby Gogledd Cymru on a date to be arranged
This type of Quins play gives hope for the remainder of the season and the experience gained by their young squad is certainly paying off.
