Howley – We will need our experience

Wales assistant coach (attack) Rob Howley believes that the experience within the squad will help when facing England in the RBS 6 Nations this Saturday.

The RBS 6 Nations fixture pits the two remaining unbeaten teams in the tournament against each other, with England one point clear at the top after Wales drew at Ireland in the opening round.

Howley says the vast number of caps across this Welsh side will help on Saturday in pursuit of the 2016 RBS 6 Nations Championship.

“The current crop of players we have got have the ability and belief to win every game of international rugby they go into, through their huge desire and attitude,” he said.

“Experience counts in international rugby and this group are used to the moments where a change of momentum can have a huge influence on the game.

“This is a a pretty experienced group, they have been to Twickenham and won, and lost, and it has always been a close game.”

Wales have welcomed Rhys Webb back into their training squad this week, after a successful return from a long-term injury that kept him out of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Howley says he is pleased to see the Ospreys scrum-half back in the fold.

“It’s nice to have someone back with Rhy’s quality as competition for places is key,” added Howley.

“Rhys bring an experience, patience and composure and he probably needs a little more time under his belt but we will assess that in the next day.

“Gareth Davies has been fantastic – there is no substitute for speed or making breaks and Gareth has done that in abundance.

“He has been outstanding for us and done exceptionally, and competition for places is bringing the best out of them – it’s great to have four quality number nine’s.”
