Foxes stay on track for double

Bedlinog’s hopes of securing a league and cup double this season were given a considerable boost when they secured a 24-0 home win in the SSE Swalec Plate over the runaway leaders of Division 1 East Central, Glamorgan Wanderers.

In a clash between two sides who had only lost one game each this season in the league and cup, the Division 1 East title challenges dominated through their power pack to set-up a quarter-final trip to local rivals Ynysybwl.

The ‘Bwl are currently sitting on top of Division 1 East, 16 points clear of third placed Bedlinog, but having played four more games. When the two teams met in Ynysybwl earlier in the season it was the Foxes who came out on top, 32-12.

The Wanderers had no answer to the power game of the home side and having been 10-0 behind at half-time, lost their way when they picked up two yellow cards after the break. Centre Owen Rees grabbed an interception try for the home side in the first half and No 8 Andrew Murphy capitalised on a dominant scrum to grab a second after the break, with the boot of outside half Ben Grzesicha accounting for the rest of the points.

A late try from wing Jordan Hopkins denied Cwmllynfell what would have been a shock SSE Swalec Plate win at Llangennech. Cwm led opponents from a division higher 9-3 at half-time thanks to three penalties from full back Sam Evans.

But Rhys Gealey hit back by adding to Alex Jones’ earlier try to book Llangennech a quarter-final trip to Whitland next weekend as the home side eventually emerged 18-14 victors

Two time winners Ammanford booked their ticket into the last eight, and a tricky trip to Penallta, thanks to a 16-10 win at Treorchy.
