Wanderers move nine points clear

Glamorgan Wanderers shook off the disappointment of their midweek SSE Swalec Plate defeat at Bedlinog to extend their lead at the top of Division 1 East Central with a 26-20 home win over Cardiff Quins.

The Wanderers had to survive a late flurry from the visitors, but four tries from pack members Jake Conway, lock Rhys Verley, hooker Aaron Fowler and back rower Michael Owen paved the way for another bonus-point win.
 
The victory, a 13th in 14 league outings this season, opened a nine point lead at the top over St Joseph’s, although the Wanderers have three games in hand. Ystrad Rhondda are third, 11 points behind the leads having played the same number of matches.
 
Fifth-placed Rumney beat Cardiff rivals Llanishen 26-7 at home and have to travel to face them again this weekend. Ioren Quick, Owain Hill, Tom Maton and Ryan Bevan scored the tries to clinch a bonus-point fo the home side.
 
Dunvant similarly extended their dominance in Division 1 West, but in far more emphatic style with a stunning 13 tries against bottom side Tenby United. Rampant Dunvant wrapped up a bonus-point after just 14 minutes while Tenby claimed a bonus of their own with six tries in a remarkable 85-39 contest.
 
Gowerton beat Loughor 20-14 and Whitland warmed up for their Plate quarter-final with an entertaining 31-26 win at Gorseinon in Division 1 West. A hat-trick from wing Sean Coles’ was at the heart of the victory and  Nico Setaro also crossed in a 16-point haul.

But Whitland struggled to shake off their hosts, who moved up to fifth place with their two bonus-points thanks to tries by Rhys Davies, Josh John, Andrew Steele and Fenton Holder.
