SWALEC Division One roundup

In Division One West, runaway leaders Dunvant succumbed to their third loss of the season, as they crumbled 22-8 to sixth place Llanelli Wanderers. A brace from centre Matthew Pearce as well as a try for flanker Steff Tafetsaufer sealed the surprise victory for Llanelli, with fly-half Jonathan George chipping in with seven points. Winless Tenby United remain at the bottom of the division following their 42-0 drubbing away at Waunarlwydd.

In Division One East, Blackwood against Brynmawr was abandoned at half-time after the pitch was deemed unplayable, with the visitors leading 5-0. It’s been a disappointing week for Blackwood after head coach Rhys Bowen resigned from his role on Friday, with the team struggling at the bottom of the table.

Glamorgan Wanderers extended their lead at the top of East Central with a convincing 25-3 win over Rhiwbina. Tries from Dan Crimmins, Ross Gibbons and Jacob Laroche, as well as 10 points from the reliable boot of Cody Reece secured the victory for the Wanderers. Bottom side Gilfach Goch recorded just their fourth win of the season, causing an upset against high-fliers St Joseph, with an 18-11 victory.

Maesteg shutout third place Bonymaen 42-0 in one of two shock results in Division One West Central.  In the other surprise, strugglers Kenfig Hill picked up their fifth win of the season thumping Maesteg Quins 61-0. Tondu edged to their second win of the season narrowly beating Builth Wells 7-5 but remain bottom of the table.

Nant Conwy increased their lead at the summit of the North division by beating Bethesda 19-3 in their 16th win of the season. Iwan Jones, Carwyn Ellis and Arthur Lennon scored the tries, with outside-half Delwyn Jones adding two conversions. Daniel Pritchard kicked a penalty for Bethesda, who remain fourth in the league. Elsewhere, Pwllheli beat Abergele 23-6 to solidify their second-place position with a game in hand over nearest challengers Bala.
