A second-half comeback handed Pooler a chance to clinch the win that would have secured them a place in the Principality Premiership next season, but the north Walians hit back to give themselves a chance of joining Merthyr, Swansea and either Bargoed or Pontypool in the t flight next season.
RGC led 17-9 at half-time through a try and three kicks by fly-half Lang as well as Richard Hopkins’ try. But the hosts hit back to level the scores through prop Garran Harris and the boot of full-back Clayton Gullis.
The man of the match Lang struck again to earn his side the double over their promotion rivals. It means Louis Tonkin’s Pooler must beat fourth-placed Bargoed next week to secure a return to the top flight after four years.
The task ahead of RGC is to bridge the five point gap between themselves and reigning champions Bargoed in fourth or the eight point gap between them and Pontypool. Bargoed can do them a huge favour by beating Pontypool this weekend, but the minimum requirement for RGC is two big wins in their remaining matches way from home against Cardiff Met and Glynneath.
Bargoed end with home games against Pontypool and Glynneath and will guarantee promotion if they beat Pontypool with a bonus point. They warmed up for the big showdown with a 76-25 win at Tata Steel.
Lewis Hudd claimed a hat-trick and Matthew Hurley a brace as the 2015 champions ran in 11 tries. Tata opened the scoring with an early penalty but Phil Price scored from his own charge down to pave the way for the rout.
Darren Lynch, Lewis Wayman, Jordan Purcell, Darren Humphries, captain Leigh Meades and Ashley Norton all followed to the try line. It was 19-19 when Pontypool hosted Bargoed, but they will need more than that to guarantee a return to the Premiership.
Newcastle Emlyn were the latest to dish-out a heavy defeat on bottom side Llanharan after running in nine tries in their 79-0 win. Sion Leonard racked up a remarkable 39 points including four tries.
Luke Kendall, Rhys Davies, Llyr Davies also crossed while Teifion Davies finished the pick of the bunch, a length of the field effort. Glynneath narrowly edged out Cardiff Met 30-27 thanks to a brace of tries from James Pike and a try in the corner from Jonathan Griffiths.
Newbridge moved level with the students thanks to a 22-18 victory in Pembrokeshire against Narberth. The visitors’ tries came via tight-head prop Luke Leddington, winger Ryan Lee and scrum-half Lloyd Teart.
