Wilkins is one of four Welsh players named in the Great Britain Women’s squad for the 2016 FISU World University Rugby Sevens Championships from 06-09 July, being hosted by Swansea University and British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS).
Fellow Welsh internationals Hannah Jones and Rebecca Defilippo are joined by rookie Emma Hennessy in a side which faces New Zealand and France in pool play.
“As in any sevens tournament, getting out of the group is our first objective,” said Wilkins. “You go into every tournament wanting to win it, but at this level every game is tough. It’s good that there four Welsh girls in the team, it always helps if there are familiar faces in a squad,” she added.
The international competition will welcome 20 rugby sevens teams – 10 male and 10 female – from 16 nations.
Both Men’s and Women’s teams include a squad of 12 players representing 10 British higher education institutions, with University of Bath, Loughborough University and Cardiff Metropolitan University providing three representatives each.
There are two Welsh representatives in the men’s squad with Cardiff Met student Jonathon Dawe joined by Durham’s Robert Stevenson.
