The 31-year-old centre first became part of the first-team squad in 2003 and, aside from a brief spell at Neath, he has remained with the club since.
In that time he has racked up 290 appearances and scored 79 tries and the powerful three-quarter is looking forward to adding to those tallies as the new campaign approaches.
“I can say that I have got used to being captain, but I still get a big buzz out of leading the team out onto the field,” Lockyer told the club website.
“It is a massive honour for me as Pontypridd RFC means so much to me and my family, and we have such a good bunch of boys among the squad.
“It is good to have players of the stature of Chris Dicomidis, himself a former club captain, Rhys Shellard, Dan Godfrey and Jake Thomas backing me up on the field – it makes my job that little bit easier. I can do a lot of shouting and bawling but there are others around me also leading by example.”
Pontypridd begin their pre-season campaign against Bedford on August 13, while their first Principality Premiership fixture sees them head to Bedwas on the first Saturday in September.
