A try in the 16th minute of a game that had remained scoreless in normal time guided the British squad into a last four contest with Dan Bibby grabbing the try that earned a clash with South Africa tomorrow for a place in the final.

Both sides had a chance to win the game with a penalty shot at goal during the game. Argentina’s attempt went wide, while Team GB skipper Tom Mitchell’s kick hit the upright.

The Pumas lost Juan Imhoff to a yellow card and then Davies picked up a two minute break for a head-high tackle. Both sides managed to keep their line intact when they were down to six men and GB struck from a scrum in the Argentine 22.

Mitchell fed the scrum, scrambled the ball to Bibby, who managed to outflank his opposite number to cross for the vital try that made it four wins out of four for his side. They will now meet the Springboks, who beat Australia 22-5 to avenge their 12-5 pool defeat by the same side.

Fiji hung on to beat New Zealand 12-7, while the Japanese stayed on course for a shot at the title with a 12-7 triumph over France.
