The Sophie Pearson Community Fund was set up after the tragic loss to 12-year-old Sophie Pearson in 2006 to heart disease.

Parents, family and friends set up a fund in her memory, and in that time they have raised £94,000. The fund has made signification donations to the Children’s Heart Unit for Wales at the Heath University Hospital in Cardiff, where they have named a room after her, The Sophie Pearson Community Room. The fund has also supported local sports clubs and schools.

Local teams from Bargoed, Rhymney, Abertysswg, Deri, Senghenydd, Markham and Aberbargoed are expected to turn out for what is a good family day out, with the usual beer tent, BBQ and bouncy castles.

Welsh international Tom James supports the event and often puts in an invitation team. The Cardiff Blues and Wales winger is a local boy and family friend and supports the fund not only in the 7s but on all the other events which are run, especially the bike ride.

Other events such as a sponsored fancy dress bike ride, a Band day in the Club and raffles are held to continue raising funds for a worthy cause.
