The Dragons will host Exeter on Friday night in their final pre-season friendly before the serious action gets under way against Ulster.
The east Wales outfit finished in 10th position last term, winning just four of their 22 games along the way. But 10 of their defeats came by seven points or less, and Jones believes improving on their home patch will make a big difference to their overall finishing position.
“We have got to be realistic but I think the things we can influence are our results and performances at home,” said head coach Jones.
“We want to win our home games and to play positively. Our big focus is to play an attacking style of rugby and have a real crack at things.
“You look at Connacht and Glasgow and you can see how well it has worked for them. I am not saying we will immediately be doing what they have done as the last two champions but we want to give it a go.
“Over the course of a season you will lose games, but if we lose games I want us to do so having given it a real crack and fighting for everything.
“Obviously being good at home does not mean losing away is acceptable. Last season we had 10 games where we picked up losing bonus points.
“Six of them were by two points and six of them we were leading with 15 minutes to play. So clearly there is room for improvement for there, be it in terms of our preparation, our approach to the game.
“But we want to at least make sure at least half of those losing bonus points are turned into wins this season.”
