Pivac frustrated by Scarlets errors

Wayne Pivac was left to rue a high error count after watching his Scarlets side kick off their Guinness Pro12 campaign with a 23-13 defeat to Munster.

A superb individual score from Wales scrum-half Gareth Davies and eight points from the boot of debutant fly-half Rhys Patchell were not enough to help the west Wales region pick up victory at Parc y Scarlets.

The home side started strongly but could not make the early dominance tell and were punished as first-half Munster tries for James Cronin and Ronan O’Mahony left them with too much to do.

Which left head coach Pivac a frustrated figure and keen to make sure there is no repeat when they face Edinburgh next time out.

“There were mistakes across the game,” admitted Pivac. “We had a good start and I thought we showed the intent of how we want to play; we want to get into those wide channels.

“The pressure was building but we just left that pressure valve off with penalties in their half which got them out of there. We then conceded in our own half and they were good enough to take advantage of that and score on three occasion which left us with plenty to do.

“It wasn’t so much what they were doing to us, but the errors that we were making. We gave them that cushion (17-10) at half-time and then in the second half the game deteriorated.

“Clearly discipline is an area which we need to go away and have a look at, there were a couple of penalties at the scrum and a couple at the breakdown – we also turned the ball at attacking line-outs in the second half.”
