The half-dozen tries made it 59 in their last 11 league outings as they robbed arch-rivals Penallta of their unbeaten record this season and took ample revenge over a side that completed a hat-trick of wins over them last season.
Wing Jordan Rees scored two of the home tries and full back Dai Gratton bagged the bonus-point try in the second half as they built on an 18-5 interval lead. Luke Rees and back row man Kyle Perry were also among the scorers, while Gratton kicked 12 points for a match haul of 17.
Former Dragons and Wales lock Andrew Coombs is cutting his coaching teeth at former club Nelson and they made it three wins out of three with a comfortable 43-15 home win over Risca to remain near the top. The other unbeaten side, Ynysybwl, went on a try rampage against Brynmawr.
Dion McIntosh got the first of 11 tries for the ‘Bwl and ended the game with 25 points. The home side led 14-7 at the break before adding nine in the second half from Joe Williams (2), Aled Price (2), Dale Stuckey (2), Corey James, Alex Taylor and Jon Gough.
It was a day of big scores in Division 1 North as reigning champions Pwllheli ran in 16 tries in a 100-0 home win over COBRA – outside half John Pugh scored four and scrum half Nick Butterworth kicked 10 conversions – and last season’s runners-up, Nant Conwy, won 99-6 at Abergele.
Unbeaten Bala had full back Rhyddian James to thank for their 51-0 win over Ruthin. He scored three of the home side’s six tries, added five conversions and kicked a penalty for a match haul of 31 points.
In Division 1 West, top two Llanelli Wanderers and Kidwelly maintain their winning ways. The Wanderers came through a tough test at Aberystwyth 17-12, while Kidwelly triumphed 32-23 at Waunarlwydd.
Table-toppers Llanharan got their first big test of the season after dropping down from the Championship into Division 1 East Central when they travelled to St Joseph’s. The Cardiff-based club finished third last season and raced into a 20-0 ahead at Blackweir before Llanharan got their act together.
The visitors hit back with two late efforts from Rhys Taylor. But the Joes were not going to be denied and scored two more tries themselves to bag a bonus point and a big win.
But the big game of the day was at The Oval, where two unbeaten teams clashed in a massive local derby. Treorchy pulled away from Mountain Ash to win 32-17 after leading 12-7 at the end of a tight first-half.
Mountain Ash plundered three tries for themselves, but the Zebras bagged the bonus point to claim top spot after three rounds with flanker Cory Dunn crossing twice and replacement back row man Wayne Davies and full back Jacob Lloyd getting the others and outside half Jordan Lloyd kicking 12 points.
Bridgend Athletic, who dropped out of the Championship with Llanharan last season, made it three out of three with a 24-17 home win over struggling Cwmllynfell in Division 1 West Central, while Aberavon Quins ensured they stayed two points clear at the top of the table with a 24-12, bonus-point home triumph over Ammanford.
Kenfig Hill lost their unbeaten tag, beaten 22-17 at home by Bonymaen and Seven Sisters also tasted defeat for the first time, also beaten at home by Trebanos, 18-13.
