In stifling heat, the Welsh squad showed a clinical edge today with victories against Portugal (19-0) and Ukraine (37-5) before finishing the day with a heavy 38-0 defeat against an experienced Russian outfit. to finish as runners-up in the their group.
A delighted Wales Women head coach Nick Wakley, said: “It’s been a successful day in regards to securing qualification for the quarter finals, and it’s always good to get two wins on day one.
“We have plenty of work-ons but with this positive and committed team who have all played a critical part today, I’m sure we’ll go out and perform as I know this team can do.”
