Warburton warming up for derbies

Cardiff Blues may have an 11 day gap between fixtures, but there will be no winding down for Christmas for the players according to Sam Warburton.

Still hurting form the 38-3 European Rugby Challenge Cup defeat at Bath, the Welsh captain can’t wait to get back out onto the field to try to put things right. Next up are the Dragons in a traditional festive derby clash at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Boxing Day.

“We need to put this right and put in a good shift against the Dragons. I’m already looking forward to the squad going back out there,” said Warburton.

“We need to get some boys back and, hopefully, we can get some good rest and recovery between now and Boxing Day and get a stronger squad out there against the Dragons. There will be no problem motivating the boys for the Christmas derbies.

“We’ve always prided ourselves on how we perform in these games and we haven’t really done too well recently against Scarlets and Ospreys. We definitely want to bring some pride back into the jersey and the Boxing Day game gives us a great chance to do that.”
