The 40-year-old former Wales, British & Irish Lions and Ospreys superstar played in the final 10 minutes of his first club’s 29-3 semi-final win over Cardigan at Lampeter. In that time he set-up a try, but also fractured his jaw.
Having spent much of Saturday night at the hospital, Williams was forced to cancel his race in the Merthyr half-marathon the next day and now faces a race against time to be fit for the final.
“It’s something I could have done without but it’s happened and you just have to deal with it. If everything falls into place, I should still be all right for the final if I’m needed – the main thing is the boys will get to play at the Principality Stadium,” said Williams.
Amman are now 19 games unbeaten this season in both Division 3B West and the Bowl. The double is on and Williams wants to join forces with his brother, Dean, in delivering the goods.
Dean was one of the four try scorers for Amman, with others coming from Rhys Thomas, Matthew Brayley and Liam Mangan. Joel Foster converted three of them and added a penalty.
While it will be Amman’s first visit to the Principality Stadium, Caerphilly are returning 13 years on from their appearance in the National Cup final against Neath in 2004, when they were beaten 36-13. They were forced to hang on in the end in their semi-final clash with Cilfynydd, triumphing 20-14 at Taffs Well.
Matthew Hurley was the hero for the Cheesemen as he supplied 15 points, including a crucial interception try. Josh Haywood bagged the other points with a try from close range.
Caerphilly who are still very much in the hunt for the Division 3A East title, were 10-0 ahead at the break and then doubled the lead after the break. But two late tries for Cilfynydd from Lewis Meecham and Huw Williams, both converted by Delme King, gave 14 man Caerphilly a few worrying moments at the death.
