Tondu celebrate title triumph

It’s been a long wait but finally Tondu have reason to celebrate after they secured the Two West Central title following their 32-0 win over Cwmgors.

The Waterwheelers have been in free fall over the past few years falling from the National Championship to Two West Central on the back of consecutive relegations. But the good times have returned with Tondu sealing the title with two games left to play.

“We’ve had a tough couple of years with two relegations but it shows the character of the players and how hard we’ve worked to come back this season and have a really good campaign – we haven’t lost since October,” said captain Hywel Davies.

“Graham Thomas, the chairman, has done a really fantastic job off the field and I think that’s been reflected on it. From U7s all the way through to senior level, we couldn’t ask for more.

“It was a really hard game against Cwmgors but the boys had a good night. It was testament to the feel of the club, it was packed to the rafters of current and former players as well as supporters.”

As well as celebrating the title triumph, the club were also commemorating the club’s first Glamorgan County Silver Ball victory 30 years ago with a reunion, and it proved to be the perfect occasion.

But the class of ’17 could replicate the Silver Ball triumph as they face Treorchy in the semi-finals with the hope of joining Glynneath in winning the competition five times.
