Cleverly has worked at the home of Welsh rugby for the last eight years, tending to the pitch on match days to make sure it’s in pristine condition.
But on Easter Sunday, the Caerphilly hooker will have a different role as he steps out on to the hallowed turf as a player for the first time.
“I’m not sure how I’m going to feel playing on the pitch for the first time. I’m sure it will be mixed emotions,” Cleverly said.
“None of the other boys have been here before, but I’ve seen it all at Principality Stadium – Grand Slams, European Cup finals and when Wales beat England 30-3. That was a great day.
“Sunday is a chance for me and the rest of the team to experience playing at the stadium and it’s going to be a great opportunity to play in front of a big crowd.
“We’ve sold out our allocation and it’s a big, big day for the club.”
Cleverly’s groundsman role sees him work at the Welsh Rugby Union’s National Centre of Excellence during the week to make sure the training pitches are in order.
With a busy Easter weekend of rugby ahead, one of the key members of the Caerphilly squad will warm up for his day of destiny with an evening at work.
Cleverly will on groundsman duty at Judgement Day – the regional double header which will see Cardiff Blues face the Ospreys and Newport Gwent Dragons meet the Scarlets – the day before Caerphilly take centre stage.
Once that’s done and dusted, he can focus on his role as a player.
Caerphilly sit third in League 3 East A, and are one step away from lifting a trophy on the biggest stage.
Standing between them are Amman, who include a certain Shane Williams in their side.
Wales’ record try scorer Williams will begin on the wing, but Cleverly isn’t too concerned.
“I’ll be working the night before at Judgement Day, it means I probably won’t finish till nine or 10 o’clock,” he said.
“I’ll have to bring my own sandwiches for my pre-match meal! Caerphilly have a proud history, but we haven’t achieved anything for many, many years. This is a chance to put that right.
“We don’t know too much about Amman, apart from the fact Shane is going to be playing! It’s going to be tough to stop him and they’re top of their league and going well.
“But the build-up to the game has been great. Promotion has been our aim all season, but if we can add a cup too then that will be a massive boost for the club and our supporters.”
