Scott relishing Judgement Day showdown

Scott Williams has revealed his excitement as the Scarlets prepare to take on Newport Gwent Dragons in Judgement Day V at Principality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Scarlets centre and vice-captain was named Guinness Man of the Match in last season’s 34-20 win, scoring a try and creating another at the home of Welsh rugby.

And Williams is hoping for another influential performance as his side eye up a big win with Pro12 play-off places up for grabs.

He said: “It’s going to be a fantastic occasion. The boys who maybe haven’t played in the stadium before or don’t play there regularly are really looking forward to it.

“I’m sure it will be a great game. Playing in front of that many people is enough motivation in itself.

“Hopefully I can do something similar as my first game back last year. It’s important that we keep building our performances now because we need to secure that top four place and make sure we keep gathering momentum.”

Wayne Pivac’s Scarlets are enjoying a fine run of form of late, scooping seven wins from eight games across the Pro12 which has eased them into fourth place in the standings.

A 51-5 thrashing of Benetton Treviso last weekend edged them closer to securing a play-off spot, but the Scarlets will still need to brush aside a Dragons side – winless since January 13 – to keep their momentum going until the end of the season.

Williams reckons the Men of Gwent will prove a tough test and believes the Scarlets’ run-in will be their “biggest games of the season”.

“It’s going to be tough,” admitted the 46-cap Wales star.

“The Dragons will be disappointed having lost last week, but they’ll be out to prove a point.

“The next three games are going to be the biggest games of the season for us. We’ve definitely got a squad that’s good enough to win trophies.

“We’ve shown that when we’ve come up against some of the best teams in Europe this year – we can compete with the best.

“It’s important to us now that we get the top four. If we do I think we’ve got every chance of going all the way.”
