It’s been quite a season for Machen who have romped home with 20 wins out of 20 – rounding off a perfect season with a 47-3 victory over Beaufort at the Welfare Ground on Saturday before being presented with the trophy.
“It’s the first time in 146 years we’ve ever gone unbeaten in the club which is fantastic,” said head coach Peter Vaughan.
“Last season we didn’t get promoted on the last turn of the dice against Usk at home and the guys have just been determined from pre-season all the way through.
“We’ve had a real tenacity about us and it’s been one game at a time; although we’ve been winning there’s been no complacency.
“Everybody realised that the game against us was every other team’s cup final – and they wanted to beat us.
“We’ve had a couple of good wins. The standout was Aberbargoed [March 25] and, to put 42 points on them on their own patch in front of their own fans, was pretty special.
“We also took a bus full of Machen supporters up there to enjoy the win which was pretty good.”
Vaughan’s side, who have scored more than 1,000 points in their 20 league matches and three WRU National Bowl games this term, will now go up to Division Three East A for next season.
