Having already secured promotion to Divison Two West Central the week before with victory over rivals Swansea Uplands, Nanty were crowned champions after Saturday’s 50-0 home victory over Abercrave.

Nanty, with 17 wins from their 20 games, topped the final table on 80 points – two ahead of Taibach.

Skipper Phillips said: “It’s a massive achievement and means so much to everyone involved with the club.
“We’ve fallen just short over the past few seasons, but the expectation has always been there and to finally get over the line is just great.”

On his standout result of the seasons, Phillips picked out the 22-13 home win over Swansea Uplands on April 29 that secured promotion, but also said the 11-7 win at Uplands on October 15 set them on the road to glory.

He continued: “They were one of the favorites to go up and beating them down there really set the tempo for the boys for our season as a whole really and, since that game in particular, our defence has been fantastic.”

On next season, Phillips added: “There’s no reason why we can’t push on now and aim high again.

“There’s a great set up here; we’ve got the ability and what’s most pleasing was the average age of the side last Saturday was just 22 – so the structure is there.”
