Davies basks in PRO12 title glory with the Scarlets

Jonathan Davies believes Wayne Pivac’s Scarlets can build on their pulsating Guinness PRO12 title success in the years to come after they destroyed Munster at the Aviva Stadium.

The men from Llanelli put on an eye-catching display in Dublin, playing some brilliant attacking rugby to score six tries in their 46-22 thrashing of the Irish giants.

In the process, Davies and Co sealed the Scarlets’ first silverware since 2004. Now, the Wales centre wants his team to make regular success the norm.

He said: “The club has such a proud history and we wanted to add to that. We have created our own bit of history with this win, and we want to make sure we keep building on this.

“We want to go on, keep competing and really push for the league again moving forward.”

Scarlets crossed for four tries before the break to take control of the final with Liam Williams, Steffan Evans, Gareth Davies and Tadgh Beirne all making it over the whitewash.

The manner in which Pivac’s men played the 80 minutes was both impressive and refreshing, with DTH Van der Merwe and James Davies adding further second half scores.

It sparked wild scenes of celebration at the final whistle. Jonathan Davies credited Scarlets’ expansive style down to the firm bond which exists within Pivac’s squad.

He added: “I think the spirit in this squad has been shown by the way we’ve played. We all play for each other and the style of play is something we enjoy – it’s all part of our natural ability.

“The proof was in the pudding today and even with a wet ball, we can still cause teams problems. It’s been a great season, it’s just unbelievable. Wayne said to me in the week that we can cause Munster problems and we got the benefits where we wanted to exploit them.

“The coaching staff have been great. They managed the guys coming back from the Six Nations well and we were all fresh coming into the final. We delivered for the coaching staff and that makes me really proud.”
