A summer signing from the Melbourne Rebels, Asquith steered the Guinness PRO2 champions to an 82-12 triumph that included a dozen tries at Church Bank. There were also two tries for former Wales Under 20 hooker Dafydd Hughes as well as tries for two more newcomers, Morgan Williams and Tom Grabham.

There were five tries in the first half as the Scarlets raced into a 35-12. The Premiership Select XV grabbed two tries of their own through Matthew Jenkins and Morgan Griffiths, with Jacob Botica landing one conversion.

That was as good as it got for the combined side and the second half turned into a demonstration of the pace and power in the Scarlets squad. As well as Asquith’s hat-trick and Hughes’ double, there were also tries for Wales Under 20 wing Ryan Conbeer, flankers Shaun Evans and Will Boyde and a penalty try.

Former Dragons outside half Rhys Jones helped himself to 20 points with 10 conversions to cap another bright debut.
