New kit for new look Dragons

The Dragons have revealed a new-look kit for the upcoming season with new headline sponsors Monmouthshire Building Society taking pride of place on the front.

Welsh internationals Hallam Amos, Gavin Henson and Cory Hill joined flying wing Ashton Hewitt in modelling the home and away strips, which are the first to feature the refreshed Dragons brand following the recent assumption of control by the Welsh Rugby Union.

The new home jersey has retained the familiar Dragons colour scheme of black and red, with amber trim. The away jersey introduces an exciting new amber and red colour scheme, which serves as a unique contrast from the home kit.

Both jerseys feature an ascending chevron, as a symbol for protection. These interlock giving the impression of dragonhide or roman scale armour giving a nod to the region’s Roman history.

The kit has given the Monmouthshire Building Society the chance to showcase their new brand and logo, which will feature both on the chests and collars of the Dragons home and away jerseys until 2020, while the new Guinness PRO14 logo is also featured for the first time.

The home kit is completed with black and red shorts with socks to match, while the away kit includes red and amber socks plus red shorts with amber detailing.

“It’s always an exciting time designing a new shirt and we have worked closely alongside both Gilbert and the WRU to make sure that we capture the history of the region through the home design and colours,” said Pete Grzonka, Dragons Commercial Director.

“We have moved away from the blue design for our away kit, as we felt that it was a good opportunity for a fresh new look through the use of red and amber. We would also like to thank Gilbert, who have pulled out all the stops, following our take over and rebrand, to make sure that we have a finished product, on Rodney Parade shelves for the first game.”

Both kits will be available from the Rugby Heaven Superstore at Rodney Parade during the week leading up to our first home game against Leinster on Saturday, 2 September.
