Ben Cambriani led the way with a try double, while there were also tries for the visitors from Iwan Temlett, Jay Roberts, Tiaan Thomas-Wheeler and Frankie Jones. Skipper Luke Scully chipped in with 13 points from the boot.
Scrum half Temlett notched the first points of an entertaining afternoon with a try from a quick tap penalty on 10 minutes that Scully improved. Cambriani was next over the home line and Scully’s conversion made it 14-0.
The lead built to 21 points when prop Roberts snapped up a loose ball and drove over for a third try before the Blues finally got on the scoreboard with try from Harrison Ashby that Tony Lamerton converted to make it 21-7 to the visitors at the break.
Blues captain James Bartlett then led the charge for a second home try at the start of the second half, with Lamerton’s conversion cutting the gap to a single score. That score set the alarm bells ringing in the Ospreys ranks and Scully kicked a penalty before converting a smart try from Thomas-Wheeler to create a 17 point cushion.
The battling Blues conjured up a corner try from Aron Churchill, but further tries from Jones and Cambriani rounding things off nicely for the champions. Ashby grabbed his second before the end, but it was much too little, too late to rescue the home team.
The Ospreys will now be able to target a quick-fire double over the Blues when they host Blues North at The Gnoll on Wednesday, 30 August (kick-off 7pm).
The Scarlets raced into a commanding 26 point lead as scrum half Dafydd Land helped himself to a hat-trick of tries in the opening 18 minutes and flanker Gethin Davies added a fourth to lay the fo8undatoin for a 38-19 home win over the Dragons.
Land’s half-back partner Llew Smith added three conversions and the game was virtually over early in the second half. But the Dragons, beaten finalists last season and recent one-point winners over Blues North, hit back to pick up three tries of their own.
Their brave rearguard action saw flanker Rhys Morgans, centre Aneurin Evans and replacement Alexi Webb cross the home line. Evan Lloyd and Iwan Burgwin added conversions to cut the gap to 19 points in the end.
The Scarlets added a two more tries through wing Dean James and replacement prop Dylan Jones. Bradley Broderick converted the latter to end a thoroughly convincing performance for the Scarlets.
* In the Regional Age Grade Under 16 tournament, RGC 1404 notched a six try, 42-24 triumph over Dragons South in Colwyn Bay.
Isaac Davies converted all six home scores, two of which were scored by livewire flanker Sam Hughes. The other tries came from Josh Jones, Ben Davies and Dafydd Thirsk.
Carrick McDonough crossed for two tries for the visitors on the left wing and Joe Peard and Tom Fitzpatrick also scored. Three of the tries were converted and, having trailed by 18 points at one stage in the second half, they clawed their way back to within 11 before Thirsk’s final try put the icing on the cake for the young Gogs.
