The St Helen’s outfit are currently second from bottom of the division, but showed promising signs as they ran table toppers RGC close before going down to a narrow 35-34 reversal.
Richard Lancaster’s side scored tries through Aled Cockwell, Ashleigh James, Tom Sloane, former Wales Under-18 captain Jon Fox and scrum-half Tom Ham in an impressive team display.
It pointed to a positive future for Swansea for the rest of the season as they ran a strong RGC side close.
Lancaster praised the performance and the attitude of his players after they came from 32-17 behind at the half-time whistle.
“We were pleased with the performance against RGC,” he said.
“Obviously we were still disappointed with the result because we didn’t win the game and in the last 10 minutes I thought they were hanging on
“But on the whole I’m relatively happy because in the previous two weeks to the RGC game we hadn’t put a good performance in.
“It definitely showed we are improving and hopefully in the last couple of games in this stage of the season we can continue to do that.
“We’re not a million miles away and in the last four or so games we’ve lost by one score. That shows we are there or there abouts.
“Maybe we’re lacking experience or a bit of know-how at times, but I’m hoping we can get there before the end of the season.”
While RGC stayed top of the division with victory over Swansea, Carmarthen Quins kept up the pressure on the North Walians with a high-scoring 34-26 victory away to Bridgend Ravens.
Quins are just a point behind RGC ahead of the two teams meeting in Carmarthen on Friday.
That game promises to be a hugely enthralling battle between two sides who are committed to free-flowing, attacking rugby.
While RGC and Carmarthen take up the top two spots, Llandovery haven’t given up hope of silverware come the end of the season.
The Drovers sit third in the West with just a handful of games to go before the two separate divisions come together for the final part of the season.
Their latest win was a 21-8 victory over Aberavon at Church Bank.
In the final West game of the weekend, Llanelli edged Neath 15-13.
Looking ahead to the rest of the Principality Premiership season, which will see all 16 clubs come together, Swansea boss Lancaster added: “We’re looking to finish strongly in this half of the campaign.
“Wherever we finish I think we’ll be no more than two games behind the leaders so hopefully we can climb the table and gather momentum.
“The key for us is to start the second half of the season well. If you don’t do that then you’re in danger of letting the campaign pass you by and we don’t want that.
“That begins for us against Llandovery in our next game.”
Principality Premiership West results:
Bridgend 26-34 Carmarthen Quins
