On Wednesday the students swept against Newcastle University 59-17 in the first leg of their BUCS Super Rugby promotion play-off final. If they stay on top in the tie they will be promoted to the top-their of student rugby next season.
They were beaten only twice in 14 games in the regular BUCS season to earn their ticket into the play-off final and now they are eyeing up a possible trip to the Principality Stadium for the Bowl final. They have beaten Cardiff Medicals (19-7), Pontyclun (22-20), Rhyl (33-7), Shotton Steel (36-13) and Swansea Uplands (28-12) on their way to the last eight.
‘Lady Luck’ favoured them with a fourth home tie of the competition in the quarter-finals, but they will be facing a team that certainly knows how to win on the road. Nantgaredig beat Tregaron, Pembroke Dock Quins and Cefneithin away from home before knocking-out Taffs Well at home in the last round.
Nantgareg currently lie fifth in Division 3 West B, with only three defeats all season, while Pembroke sit on top of Division 3 West A with only one defeat. They host Deri, while Monmouth welcome Abercwmboi and Pentygraig entertain Porthcawl.
