Carmarthen headed into the game at the top of the table following their victory over Cross Keys last weekend. Tries from Adam Jones, Dan Fish and Gareth Thompson was enough to ensure they left West Wales with the points.
The Blue and Blacks victory has helped them up to fifth in the table, level on points with fourth place Pontypridd. Cardiff head coach Steve Law praised his side’s second half performance following the victory.
“I am very pleased with the victory,” said Law.
“Carmarthen are a tough side especially on their own patch and I am pleased with how we reacted to a mediocre first half. I thought we put in a really good performance in that second half. It was very pleasing how the boys applied themselves and the performance was excellent.
“The work rate was second to none and this group has a lot of potential. We gained a lot of confidence from back to back bonus point victories over Neath and Swansea but they were both at home and we knew this would be a different challenge.
“We just built on the positives of how good we have been and took it into the game against Quins. We haven’t really set a target for the rest of the season, we just hope to win our fair share of games and be up there competing.
“We know we can’t take anything for granted especially as we had a couple of injuries on Saturday and we know that injuries will have a bearing on everybody between now and the end of the season.”
Merthyr were the main beneficiaries from the Quins’ surprise loss retaking their place at the top of the table with a thrilling 44-43 victory over Llanelli.
Llandovery defeated Ebbw Vale at home 17-6 in Saturday’s only other fixture. They remain in ninth while Ebbw Vale drop to eighth. Bedwas have moved above Newport in the Principality Premiership thanks to their 15-20 away victory against Swansea. While Newport suffered a shock loss to 15th placed Bridgend 16-12.
Bottom of the table Neath are still looking for their first victory in the second part of the season despite pushing fourth placed Pontypridd all the way in a 30-34 loss at the Gnoll. Aberavon defeated league rivals Cross Keys 25-7 to move four points clear of The Keys and into 10th place in the Welsh Principality Premiership.
The planned fixture between Bargoed and RGC 1404 was postponed due to the weather.
