You have to go all the way back to 2001 for the last time Newport won the Cup and they will be shooting for their fifth final. They won the title for the first time in 1977 and were runners-up in 1978, 1986 and 2003.
It means the Black & Ambers will meet two-time winners Llandovery in the semi-finals next week after the Drovers pipped Cross Keys 14-13. Ebbw Vale claimed the other semi-final spot thanks to a 26-3 triumph at Bargoed to set-up a final four clash with reigning Principality Premiership champions Merthyr.
The Ironmen knocked-out Championship side Pontypool 21-6 at The Wern and will now be hoping to go one better than last season’s last gasp defeat in the semi-finals against RGC 1404.
Jack Maynard was the hero for Llandovery at Pandy Park as he scored a try and kicked three penalties to notch all his side’s points in the 14-13 win. He kicked a first-half penalty to give his side a 3-0 at the break and then kicked his third five minutes from time to secure victory.
Matthew Powell scored a try for Keys and Josh Prosser added the conversion and kicked penalties in the 65th and 70th minutes to steer his side into the lead. Then Maynard landed a 75th minute penalty to earn a ticket into the semi-finals for the Drovers.
The Steelmen had 11 points from the boot of David Langdon to go with tries by Toby Fricker, James Lewis and David Jones in their win at Bargoed, while Matt Jarvis also kicked 11 points for Merthyr as they overcame Pontypool.
