Three tries in either half ensured a comfortable success for league leaders Merthyr as they extended their advantage over Carmarthen Quins to eight points against the Drovers.
Llandovery were dealt an early blow as flanker Emyr Price was forced off after eight minutes with an ankle injury and Rhys Williams and Kyle Evans scored either side of a penalty try to take Merthyr into a 20-6 lead at half time.
In the second period an impressive nine-minute spell saw the hosts extend their advantage with three further unanswered tries from Nathan Trevett, Justin James and Matthew Liam Dwyer to secure a bonus-point victory.
In the only other game unaffected by the weather, RGC overtook their weekend opponents Cardiff with a 64-21 thrashing of the Blue and Blacks.
The Gogs racked up nine tries in an impressive show of attacking prowess at Cardiff Arms Park to claim third position in the Premiership and join the title fight.
Four tries in the opening half hour from Tiaan Loots, Alex Schwarz, Iolo Evans and Evan Yardley secured the bonus point and paved the way for an impressive victory.
Cardiff answered with two first-half tries of their own, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide nor the result, ending the Black and Blues’ five-game winning streak.
Man of the match, Yardley, who picked up two tries in the match, was pleased to get back to winning ways following RGC’s disappointing defeat to Llanelli last time out.
He said: “It was vital we got back to winning ways and we have done that over the Easter weekend.
“Fitness is a key factor in our game and those small percentages make a difference.”
Despite the manner of his team’s comfortable victory, Yardley was keen to switch his focus to preparation for next week’s fixture against Pontypridd.
He added: “To come to the capital and put in such a high score is obviously pleasing, but we have another tough away game on Saturday at Sardis Road.
“We will look at the recovery over the next few days as part of the preparation, but we are in a good position to build on the past two results.”
Premiership action doesn’t stop with Neath, Bridgend, Swansea and Newport in action this Tuesday.
Neath, who travel to Bridgend, are bottom of the table and without a win in their nine games this year. Their opponents aren’t much better off in 15th, having managed one win in seven games.
Elsewhere, Newport will be hoping to put some distance between themselves and Llandovery as well as closing the gap on the title race.
They welcome Swansea to Rodney Parade who are without a win in five games.
