PREM PREVIEW: Neath look for Hall impetus

Neath have selected new signing Callum Hall for their Principality Premiership clash with Bridgend at The Gnoll on Saturday.

Outside-half Hall has joined the Welsh All Blacks from Mountain Ash having previously figured for Cardiff and Pontypridd.

And Neath team manager Martyn Morris believes Hall’s goal kicking can give his side an edge this season as they look to catapult themselves up the Premiership table.

“Callum is a versatile performer of huge potential,” said Morris.

“He is an accomplished goal-kicker too which is another string to his bow. He has a point to prove and wants to do it with Neath.

“He has fitted in perfectly and we look forward to him flourishing in the Premiership.”

Neath fell to a 32-19 defeat to RGC 1404 last weekend and will be desperate to get back on track against the Ravens, a fellow side from the Ospreys region.

Neath club captain Scott Andrews has warned his side they will have to be at their best to get a result.

“We know we must do our bit on the field and we are geared up for a big effort on Saturday,” he said.

“But we acknowledge we have formidable opponents in Bridgend who are always sharp in attack and well-organised defensively.

“It will be great to run out at The Gnoll for our first home game. I couldn’t get over the atmosphere and post-match organisation when we beat Pontypool in pre-season and that was a friendly.”

Elsewhere, Carmarthen Quins will be hoping to bounce back from an opening-round defeat to Newport when they face Cross Keys.

Morgan Stoddart’s Keys side began the season with a bang as they edged past Bridgend at Pandy Park.

Arguably the most impressive result from the opening round of fixtures was Llandovery’s 66-15 win at Bargoed.

The Drovers welcome Cardiff to Church Bank in round two for what will most likely be a tight encounter.

Defending champions Merthyr face Bedwas while Pontypridd host Llanelli at Sardis Road.

Mark Jones’ RGC will be looking to build on their opening win when they face a dangerous Swansea side.

The action continues into Sunday as Newport clash with Bargoed.
