After the two opening rounds of Premiership action, there are six teams who have emerged victorious in both their matches; Pontypridd, Newport, RGC 1404, Llandovery, Ebbw Vale and defending champions and last season’s WRU National Cup winners Merthyr.
Of those six, it was Pontypridd who made the biggest statement as they brushed Llanelli aside by scoring seven tries on home turf.
Former Wales Sevens ace Rhys Shellard opening the scoring within five minutes and from then on, it was one-way traffic.
No 8 Morgan Sieniawski soon added a second and the men from west Wales were left struggling further when prop Adam Thomas was yellow carded.
It allowed Pontypridd to take total control and tries from Dale Stuckey and Alex Knott ended the game as a contest.
The writing was on the wall for Llanelli and Stuckey made it two for the afternoon and there was still time for flying back Alex Webber to add a late brace of his own.
At St Helen’s, former Llanelli man Billy McBryde was the star man as RGC beat Swansea 34-26.
An entertaining game saw eight tries scored, but it was the kicking of McBryde – son of Wales forwards coach Robin – which was the difference between the teams.
Mark Jones’ RGC scored through Tom Hughes, Efan Jones, Sam Jones and Cam Davies, with McBryde consistent from the kicking tee.
Unfortunately for Swansea they were unable to respond and went down to their second successive defeat despite tries from Owen Morgan, John Rhys Williams and Rhys Williams.
On home soil Merthyr downed Bedwas 27-7 on home soil at The Wern.
The Ironmen were indebted to a superb first-half performance from star man and wing Lewis Williams who scored a stunning first-half hat-trick.
Hooker Rhys Williams also scored before the break with full-back Joshua Martin kicking seven points.
Bedwas struggled to get going despite a James Richards try and the only surprise was that Merthyr couldn’t push further clear when the game resumed in the second half.
A penalty goal from Martin resembled the only points after the break.
In a high-scoring game in Carmarthen, the Quins got the better of Cross Keys 41-28, while Llandovery downed Cardiff 20-3 at Church Bank.
There were far less points on offer at The Gnoll as Bridgend beat Neath 10-7.
All the points came in the opening 40 minutes and it was the Ravens who opened the scoring through a converted try from Adam O’Driscoll.
Ben Uphill responded for the Welsh All Blacks who had seen their pack get on top and Ed Howley added the extras.
But a Will Holley penalty gave Bridgend a surprise half-time lead and it was an advantage they somehow held on to in a pointless second period.
Neath weren’t helped by losing Ryan Bean to a yellow card.
In the Friday night game, Ebbw Vale downed Aberavon 19-17 with Lewis Young the star men for the Steelmen.
In the final game of the weekend, Newport came out on top in another high-scoring thriller, this time with Bargoed on Sunday.
The Black and Ambers emerged 44-30 winners at Rodney Parade.
