Former Wales wing Wyatt has taken over as the Wales Women’s backs coach on a full time basis. He held the post on a temporary basis during the 2018 Six Nations campaign.

Matthews returns to Sardis Road, where he made 70 appearances between 2003 and 2008, having launched his coaching career at Merthyr and then Mountain Ash. He also coached at Under 16 and Under 18 levels with the Cardiff Blues regional squads.

Matthews, a WRU Level 3 coach who also helps out with the Pontypridd Under 8s squad for whom his sons play, has been shadowing Wyatt at training sessions this season and will take over after his predecessor’s final game on 21 September..

Having progressed as a coach to level 3 status, and with strong club links as a former player, Paul Matthews will be a key addition to the Pontypridd RFC coaching team.
